Rory Remembers is a fantastic album that pays tribute to the late-trumpeter Gil Askey, a legend of Motown who worked with the likes of the Jackson Five, Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder and mentored Rory from the age of 13. Opening with the track Goodbye Gil, written in the style of the 1960’s Blue Note classics, the album features a suite of tunes that cover some of the most popular genres of the Motown-era from straight-ahead jazz to RnB and Soul classics. Featuring six original compositions and three covers, this is a quality album with broad appeal.
Rory’s highly anticipated second album features some of Australia’s finest jazz and RnB musicians, including Doug De Vries on guitar and vocalist Freddie Balisson backed by Nathan Post (bass), Brian Abrahams (drums), Eric Budd (trumpet. Flugelhorn, trombone) as well as horn section comprising of Roger Clark (alto sax), Christophé Genoux (tenor sax) and David Hardy (trombone).

Inspired by musical legends such as Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon and Antonio Carlos Jobim, New Beginnings is a highly melodic album of instrumental and vocal tunes that take the listener on a journey from the depths of the soul to the beaches of Rio, then to the streets of New York and back again.
'Five compositions from the leader, with one each by Kenny Dorham and Clare Fischer, bring a fine bunch of musicians to the fore under the inspired guidance of new (to me) young pianist of enviable talent. New Beginnings is an appropriate introduction to the recording and to the composer, Follow Me is a bossa nova sung by Louisa Rankin who has a voice that evokes fond memories of Astrud Gilberto, La Mesha is a journey into introspection, Dexter's Drawcard is bop at its very best with driving rhythm backing and Rory stretched out, with Fem Belling exercising her jazz chops like Blossom Dearie on Train Stop. The tunes offer contrast, with the arrangements for strings, horns and voices holding the attention from start to finish. A good one to buy for a night at home alone.'
DON BROW - Jazz Scene magazine
'Young Melbourne pianist Rory Clark's CD "New Beginnings" is a quality production at every level. In "New Beginnings", Rory establishes his reputation as a composer of note. Five of the seven tracks are his compositions. The tight horn section and subtle use of the strings add variety, as do the vocals. Tasteful, sensitive musicianship, superbly recorded with informative cover notes'.
NEAL SELLARS - Jazz Presenter on Townsville's Community Radio tttFM and founder of Townsville's Palmer Street Jazz Festival.
'Rory Clark, the son of well known alto sax player Roger Clark, is an extremely talented and accomplished pianist. He has composed all but two of the tracks on his debut album 'New Beginnings' and they are all superb. On the album he plays in a trio, and septet setting, with top jazz musicians and vocalists. We will be hearing much more of this exciting young musician as he rises to stardom. This album is well worth having in your collection'.
